Philosophy Enquiry with Students from Lancaster University

Year 5 and 6 had a thought-provoking afternoon working with PhD philosophy students at Lancaster University. We were delighted to deepen our thinking around the concept of ‘being free’. We listened to a fabulous story stimulus written especially for our visit and then we worked in groups with a member of staff or a student to discuss aspects of the stimulus. We generated philosophical questions in our groups before choosing one for enquiry. There was lots of participation between the students, staff, pupils and parents.

After our enquiry, we had a tour around the university campus which was very exciting – it’s like a mini-town! We especially loved going into the student accommodation and seeing what it was like to be a student at university. It’s certainly a very ‘big school’ compared to Armathwaite School! What a great experience for us!
