Our music curriculum is designed to be engaging, creative and fun. Children get to experience singing and playing as part of a group and to develop their improvisation and composition skills. Each unit of learning is based around a different genre of music which gives access to a wide range of music. Through this children develop an understanding of the different dimensions that come together to make music.
Cathedral Outreach Project
The children in Years 3, 4 and 5 have been involved in an outreach project with the cathedral working with the cathedral’s assistant organist, Ed Taylor. Ed came into school and worked with us on some fabulous songs which we performed along with Fellview and Caldew Lea Primary Schools in a concert at the cathedral at the end of the Summer term. We had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to perform in such an amazing building !
The Big Sing at the Big Screen
Years 5 and 6 took part in the Big Sing at Rheged, Penrith. We joined other local schools in a fantastic event organised by Jilly Jarman of BlueJam Arts. The event was based around a song cycle all about the Red Necked Phalarope – a tiny bird that migrates all the way from Fetlar in the Shetlands to Peru and back every year. For our part of the cycle we wrote and performed our own music and poems on the theme of flight and also created a green-screen film of us all flying above Fetlar, which was then played on the IMAX screen. It was a brilliant event to be part of and we loved being up on the big screen!
