Introduction to Learning at Armathwaite

We believe that every member of our school community is unique and special. Everyone has expertise, gifts or talents that they can share to enrich the leaning of others. All our pupils are able to make choices about their learning and all deserved to be stretched and challenged. We believe we can best prepare our children for the changing needs  and challenges of the 21st century by nurturing multi dimensional intelligence and by teaching and progressing the transportable skills for independent life long learning within a caring and supportive community.

We shape our curriculum to reflect the ethos, aims and values of our school. We place high emphasis on developing creativity in all areas of a broad and rich curriculum. We prioritise independence in learning- the acquisition of life long learning skills. We respect and value each person’s individuality and the contribution they make to our school community.

"The curriculum and teaching are excellent. Staff ensure that learning is at the hub of what the school does. "

Tools for successful Learning

|

Because we are all confident teachers of our specialist subjects our continual professional development for a number of years now has focused on how children learn rather than what they will learn. As a staff we have developed a deeper understanding of ourselves as learners and the tools for successful learning. Because we are very self aware we can model and teach these skills and we have organized our curriculum so that children can learn, develop and apply them in different contexts. This is a changing role for us ? that of experts in learning or choreographer of learning. We are no longer the fount of all knowledge. These days all you need to do is type a word into Google and you can access the knowledge you need. In the past we feel education was? done to you? ? the difference now is that we want to work with our children giving them ownership of their learning journeys.  We are the facilitators of learning incorporating the vast amount of expertise that we have available within our community.
