Investigating Waterproof Materials

Looking at how umbrellas work

|
The Reception and Year One children have been investigating waterproof materials. They brought wellies, umbrellas and waterpoof coats to school to help them carry out their investigations.

The learning was fantastic fun and very exciting and provided opportunities to....

Work collaboratively with others to solve problems and find solutions
Select and work with a range of materials ( Science and Design and Technology )
Take turns to share ideas and listen carefully to eachother
Share and review what they what they found out with other children in school
Enjoy the positive experience of a job well done !

The investigation was carried out in four stages.

Many thanks to Mrs Morley,Sandra,Kath, Miriam and Mrs Nelles for all their help.

First we looked at the design of the umbrellas we had brought from home and tested them to see what made them successful at keeping us dry.

Testing which materials are waterproof

|

The children took different materials outside to test which were the most waterproof, this would help them to decide which materials to use for their umbrella design.
